Austrian Cavalry Officer's Helmet

Helmets of this type were worn by officers in the Austrian Cuirassiers, Dragoons and Cheveauxlegers from about 1805 onwards. Originally it would have borne a black-over yellow woolen comb along the crest. A cuirassier officer wearing a replica of such a helmet can be seen at the Heeresgeschichtliches Museum in Vienna. This particular example was bought in a Paris antique shop in the 1920s, and inherited by a visitor to this website.
